Is Google broken?
Topic: Miscellaneous 3:18 pm EDT, Jun 12, 2003

] For the last 30 days, Google has been doing strange
] things. No webmaster who follows Google closely will deny
] this. There is no explanation from Google apart from some
] vague hints from "GoogleGuy," an anonymous poster at
] webmasterworld.com, whom the forum owner says is from
] Google. These hints claim that new algorithms are being
] put into place, and that this will take a couple of
] months.

Interesting site ... these guys are big-time Google naysayers..

] make consumer electronic devices faster, multifeatured

] David Rose is betting there is money to be made heading
] against the crowd. His company, Ambient Devices, a
] start-up in Cambridge, Mass., is producing devices that
] display limited information in ways that can be
] understood with just a glance.

Really cool! Even mentions CMU HCII's "information percolator."

Topic: Miscellaneous 1:00 pm EDT, Jun  6, 2003

] WASHINGTON, June 5 — The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on
] the new campaign finance law on Sept. 8, a month before the start of
] its fall term and time enough to decide the case before the election
] season starts next year.

Hmmm ... I haven't thought too hard about the constitutional issues
with McCain-Feingold; it may turn out to be unconstitutional as things stand. If so, maybe we need an ammendment. The system definitely needs to be cleaned up.

Microsoft's new Linux gambit (and SCO)
Topic: Technology 1:44 pm EDT, May 30, 2003

] Microsoft is not telling corporate managers that the use
] of open-source applications might land them in hot water
] with patent attorneys. And Microsoft is not saying that
] the open-source development community is a hotbed of
] misappropriation of private property.
]
] This is not because Microsoft disagrees with the above.
] But it's just so much easier to give the dirty work to
] SCO.

Here's the conspiracy theory.
