I really like this homepage by google - it's google'ish in the sense that it's minimalistic, fast, and easy to use. And it integrates with Gmail.

Stealth

] In the near future, the Navy develops a fighter jet
] piloted by an artificial intelligence computer. The jet
] is placed on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific to learn
] combat manuevers from the human pilots aboard. But when
] the computer develops a mind of its own, it's the humans
] who are charged with stopping it before it incites a war

The preview for this movie was on Star Wars. It is pretty intense, including a scene where the plane flies through a skyscraper. I couldn't stop wonder if they will get flack for that scene.

Star Wars 3
Topic: Recreation 3:10 am EDT, May 19, 2005

I was given four tickets this afternoon so I was one of those crazy people at the midnight show. Overall I enjoyed it immensely. There were a handful of scenes that were meant to be heartwarming that end up being cheesy but it didn't take away from the experience. The best part for me was getting to witness the birth of things that many of us acknowledge as an integral part of of our childhood.

FRONTLINE/WORLD . Lebanon - The Earthquake
Topic: Miscellaneous 5:32 pm EDT, May 18, 2005

This was a hopeful Frontline. Coverage of democratization in Lebanon and the return of Liberia to peace. Particularly interesting was the interviews with people in Syria on the Iraqi border. The people there seemed shifty and real. I didn't feel like reporter or reportee were trying to insert a message. The messages were between the lines.

The image of a US fort in Iraq with its flag raised high against nightly mortar attacks was pretty powerful. Its an image you've seen in 1000 movies but this one is real.

Newsweek retracts story on Koran under pressure
Topic: Current Events 12:45 am EDT, May 17, 2005

I thought that reporting a story without substantiation was the sole domain of the blogger, you know... those "journalists without rules..."

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Newsweek magazine on Monday retracted a report that U.S. interrogators at Guantanamo Bay had desecrated the Koran after the story triggered protests in Afghanistan that killed 16 people and the White House criticized it.

"Based on what we know now, we are retracting our original story that an internal military investigation had uncovered Koran abuse at Guantanamo Bay," Newsweek Editor Mark Whitaker said in a statement, a day after apologizing for the report.

Internet Rule #1: Just because you see it in print doesn't necessarily make it true... Unfortunately, newsweek up until now has had unquestioned credibility.
