"There were about 20 people in the room, and each one of us had to introduce ourselves and talk about our most recent position. There was a cashier from McDonald's, a woman who had worked at Baby Gap, a ticket collector from Loews, a gift wrapper from Barnes & Noble. Then it came to me. I said I used to be an executive vice president and a director of interactive marketing for Rapp Digital, a digital media company with 300 employees and a P. and L. of $40 million." More regression. No more 3 hour flights from the US to Europe. Not that I could afford them anyway. Smartmoney.com: Breaking News: Air France, British Airways to Pull Plug on Concorde |

There's also alternative information that states that the downturn in the (collective) RIAA labels promotion of new albums parallels the reduction in global sales, not in this article though. ] Americans will be spared another rise in the price of ] stamps for three years under legislation en route to ] President Bush for signature into law. The legislation ] takes advantage of a discovery that the money-losing post ] office was paying far too much into the Civil Service ] Retirement System, a program that covers employees who ] joined the force before 1984. ] Over the last two weeks, nobody has been paying much ] attention to economic news; even the ups and downs of the ] Dow have reflected reports from the battlefield, not the ] boardroom. But the economic news is quite worrying. ] Indeed, the latest readings suggest that our recovery, ] such as it is, may be stalling. ] ] Actually, the recovery can't officially stall since it ] hasn't officially begun: the committee that rules on such ] matters still hasn't declared the recession that began in ] March 2001 over. There are good reasons for the ] committee's hesitation: while G.D.P. started growing in ] late 2001, the job situation -- which is what matters ] to most people -- has more or less steadily worsened. ] In particular, fewer people are working now than were ] employed a year ago. Since the working-age population ] continues to rise, jobs have become steadily harder to ] find. Gun, Germs and Stall? |

] "I want ___, Give it to me ___, Buy me ___" seem to be ] the constant demand of some children. Some children feel ] owed or entitled to get their way. While it is normal for ] a child to ask for what he wants, some children are ] overly demanding and needy. They have not learned to ] balance taking from others with giving; they view other ] people as existing merely to give to them. Too often we see this syndrome in the Internet Era where persons had something "for free" and then are upset when the company offering it for free now wants to start charging for a non-base level of service. Or when a game changes its rules for the better, others perceive it as strictly aimed at their own enjoyment and are sure they are being persecuted , and that the game owners owe them better treatment. ] America Online Inc. is projecting for the first time that ] its base of dial-up subscribers will decline on an annual ] basis, a drop that Wall Street analysts predict will be ] in the range of 500,000 to 1 million customers. I wonder what Alternet and Sprintnet will do with all that excess modem capacity. I'd look for pricing changes on smaller providers like Earthlink as the dialup service providers cut costs. Senators ] approved their measure 93-0 and the House adopted a ] similar bill by 414-12, underscoring lawmakers%u2019 ] resolve to back U.S. forces in the field.
