I saw a link to this in Schneier's latest Crypto-Gram newsletter, and it made me laugh. It's a beautiful visual representation of why security needs to think about the "weakest link" principle. Hehe, There are places on GT campus to do this. Security: The Weakest Link |

I hope to see some of the memstreams regulars there! I'm very pleased to see Stank presenting disposable email system. It is an needed service, and a cool idea. I will not be at Interz0ne, because I am attending the O'Reilly Emerging Technology conference (See earlier meme http://www.memestreams.net/users/acidus/blogid4810557), which is Monday - Thursday immediately after Interz0ne. I will not be at Interz0ne, because I need to use that time to do a weeks worth of group work. However my evenings are free and there a lots of folks I walk to see like Stank, Strick, and Virgil. IATA documentation is *very* boring. Anyway, Boarding Passes and Plane Tickets are now supported by SS 2.0. Grab the CVS tree from sf.net if you want. The initial issue of Make launches in March, but supposedly is available in the bay area now. I'm rushing to get SS 2.0 out, it will most likely be out this weekend. MFC API is a POS! I am totally spoiled by *nix programming. Want to read a port? fp = fopen("/dev/ttySO", "r"); fgets(buffer, 1024, fp); Maybe some stty stuff to set echoing, baud if its something odd like 4800, etc. But for Windows... I have to extend some obscure C++ classes, or use a 3rd party solution, where I am setting up baud, and parity, and timeout values, and registering functions. Now my (relatively) nice-looking Stripe Snoop code is pimpled with giant #ifdef's. Samir: This is a fuck. |

In the first case of its kind, a California video game maker is suing an entire community of software tinkerers for reverse engineering and modifying Xbox games that they legally purchased. The article quotes the EFF. I only hope they are actually *doing something* for these 2 other than delivering soundbites to the media. This case is completely absurd. ] Microsoft founder Bill Gates, 49, talks about the thorny ] issues of computer security, competition, software ] bundling and how he lives with the downsides of his ] wealth and fame. Pretty good interview with Gates. Its funny to see his apparent disconnect when grilled about Microsoft's business practices. According to him, people are buying new Microsoft products and Versions of Windows because they are attracted to the features. Perhaps this might be true with their enterprise applications (I have no experience with them), but I don;t know of too many people these days who go buy the OS unless its on an OEM machine. Further, Office features have been stagant for years, with a few excepts (multiple edits with histories). Breaking backwards compatiability and standards, and not innovative features seems to be why most people upgrade. SPIEGEL Interview with Bill Gates: |
