I saw this British news crew that got to go into North Korea on PBS a year back (Frontline? maybe). Anyway, they were given 2 "guides" [cough]governmentagents[cough], who showed them around the country and answered their questions. Its was wild how literially brainwashed these people were.

The guides explained some monument that showed "The GreaT Leader repelling the evil imperialist Americans and Japanese tried to conquer NK in WWII." It was so funny to listen to the British try to explain that no, the Germans and Japanese started the war against Europe Russia and the US. The guide simply could not believe it, insisting the US started WWII.

In the rural areas, the guide were preplexed by the British questions about all the famine that has been reported and replied "no, there are no famines here." The British tried to explain, "Yes, the UN is giving you grain, millions are dying from lack of food," and even showed the guide newspapers from several different countries talking about the UN food relief effort. Again the guide looked at him like he said 2+2=5.

Here is an entire country that has been lied to about the events of the world for the past 60+ years. It is extremely sad to think of all the wasted potential.

I am completely shocked by how incredible this film is.

Unlike most films, this movie doesn't have a resolution of conflict. It is 100+ minute snapshot of how 4 people are consumed by their flaws, and are utterly destroyed by them.

While feeling very sad, I also felt very uplifted by the film. Not in a "at least I'm not ..." kind of way. It is almost as if being able to spot the troubles and warning signs as 4 people self destruct, I can somehow prevent myself from falling prey to my own flaws. The film teaches several lessons, but the on I took from it was this: We can be so blindly focused on our dreams, we overlook whats preventing them from ever happening, and whats slowly killing our relationships and even our very bodies. It can prove difficult to pull up sometimes, and take a breather. Its a skill everyone needs, but very few people can do it.

I have much to learn.

... [sigh]. I always am worried about dietary studies. For Example, they rarely take into account other factors then eating, such as the persons lifestyle, exercise, stress levels, etc.

As you are anti-Atkins (as I am), I show you a prime example. Last week NBC's Dateline was all about the Atkin's diet. Several Atkins people were pointing out that in the 1950's and 1960's, would ate lots of red meat for dinner, and eggs, bacon and sausage for breakfast, and we were fine. then, they said, because the US government created and promoted the food pyramid and so we became very fat in the 1970 and 1980s, and that continues until today.

This completely overlooks the number of blue-collar vs white-collar jobs, the activity levels of these folks, rising economic needs that forced both parents to work and thus the increase in processed foods that were bought, the growth of fast food, the insane amount of calories in food today (I doubt they had 1000+ calorie hamburgers @ BK in the 1950s), the increased sized of portions of todays food, the increase in disposable income of child to buy food, the increase in marketing to kids and sales of food products by kids, etc.

In short the entire argument these folks were pushing was based on figures that you couldn't compare. While this may not apply in this study on vegetarians, I always kind of never take these things as seriously as I should.

As I said, I read this site with a grain of salt. A yes it is horrible thing that happened. Do I believe the conspriancy nonsense? No, of course not, its utterly retarded. Do I think a ray gun took down the towers? no. Do I find the information about steel and fire temperatures interesting, certainly.

It is a well written and documented website. I like the layout, it has alot of information (or disinformation if you like), a lot of sources (who may or may not be morons), and everything is nicely cross-referenced. They present there case fairly well, and I can admire that.

My meme was not an endosement of the facts or what you view as a misrepresentation of information on the site. Compared to other conspircy/ufo/craziness sites out there (ie http://www.crystalinks.com/ ) this was of nice quality, and I enjoyed reading it.

Granted this religious sacrament has legal meaning (inheritance, etc), but this, as Bush says, is not about denying gays those rights. It comes down to protecting the religious significance of the word "marriage," and the government has no business fucking with that
