Comcast registering under Linux
Topic: Miscellaneous 8:58 pm EST, Nov 30, 2004

] I used Mozilla. Comcast will say (of course), "We only
] support Internet Explorer". It doesn't matter. I put
] "sas.ne2.attbb.net" into both the "HTTP Proxy" and "SSL
] Proxy" fields of the Edit-Preferences-Advanced-Proxies
] section, and put "8000" in both respective "Port" fields.
] You may only need the SSL proxy set. The "No Proxy for"
] field had "localhost, 127.0.0.1" in it, to which I added
] ", .ne2.attbb.net". In Internet Explorer, it is
] apparently a field called "bypass local address", and you
] are supposed to put in "*.ne2.attbb.net". Netscape is
] similar, but you get the idea. You have to try setting
] it, quitting, firing it up again, etc. It worked for me
] after a reboot.

Fucking Comcast. Instead of registering a MAC once, they do some kind of dynamic registering thing where you have to go through proxies etc to "Register" your connection. I have to do this every year or so. It varies. The comcast support chick was giving me alot of flak about Linux, so Fuck her. Basically just setting up proxies so they can see where on the network you are coming from. More of a note to myself when I have to do thing again, but here are the instructions for doing it under Linux
