The ipad - well, I just don't want to travel around with a computer that I can't code on. The new macbook seemed like a possibility - and then it happened. I got the bug. I desired it. Its pretty, its much less of a hassel on airplanes, but its full of bugs. It doesn't actually work. I went through the hell of having a G3 iBook - replacing the logic board every year sucked. I'm not spending a fortune so I can go through that again. So I gotta let it go. Such a shame...
I am ready for a new laptop so whenever Apple resolves the Rev A. hardware issues, ill consider the 11-inch MBA. I do wish they had a version that supported 8gb of ram. I agree with your comments on the logic board replacement, that really sucked. Maybe they will have flash storage in the Macbook Pro in January '11.
8 gigs of ram? Seriously? 8 gigs... of ram? 5 years ago 2 gigs of ram was a fucking ton of ram. Now I'm looking at buying this new laptop and people are all like "dude go for the 4 gigs!" Really? I need that? What are you doing with your computer that you weren't doing 5 years ago? Has Apple's code bloated that much? I'm not seeing the new features, really. The 11 is a cool machine but how much are you flying? I fly all the time so I think it would really make my life easier but if I wasn't I'd probably go in for something bigger. (In fact my MacBook is humming along OK. I don't need an upgrade. I'm really just interested in this thing because it is lighter and smaller. I was considered a netbook until it came out. I'll probably go back to considering a netbook if they don't fix all the problems people are having.) Do you need the 1.6 ghz proc? I'm thinking it ain't worth the $$$...
I like the lightweight and form factor. I do not need a dvd drive, why pay for it. I do not need a large screen, there is virtual windows. I do not need much drive space, flash storage size would be sufficient. Virtual routers man, don't you know? :) More ram, more routers. Prob not the typical use case for most people. http://www.gns3.net/ & http://www.dynagen.org/ Looks like a software update is on the way to fix the issue: http://www.macrumors.com/2010/11/04/apple-internal-support-acknowledges-macbook-air-display-issues-software-update-coming/ RE: Video Problems & Kernel Panics Reported By Early MacBook Air Adopters | Cult of Mac |
