They haven't actually given notice, and ICANN hasn't approved of anything. The reason the Register and Slashdot are spinning this in this way is that the half the clueless geek crowd decided that Sitefinder was over when ICANN ordered Verisign to termporarily shut it off. More evidence that even "smart" people do no read news carefully.
