The ACLU ought to offer a response. this is actually in direct responce to the ACLU's compain against the patriot act... while I don't see anything directly illegal about the DOJ campain, I am always suspicious of governemtn PR campains, for this one reason...the people of a democratic nation are supposed to try to influence the views and actions of its government as they relate to political issues..the government is not generally supposed to try to do things the other way around and use thier powers to influence the people on political issues...its a bit of wagging the dog when they do... this is of course just as it relates to political matters, but I feel it is akin to the whitehouse budget being used for GOP television adds...and while some of this does happen from time to time, for the DOJ to have such a substantial PR campain to defend a law that is already on the books is pretty signifigant... if nothing else it's a waste of tax payers money, in that they are using our money to try and convense us that something we already did was just...wouldn't that money be better spent, oh, I don't know, hunting down these terrorists that everyone seems so afraid of these days... --Abaddon |
