And a poor one. Although they get points for mentioning that megatokyo comic, Hacker zines like Phrack, and IRC in general, were much more important in propagating l33t speak then online games. Furthermore, the use of numbers as letters didn't come from people who were trying to "hide" newsgroups (in fact, I didn't see that kind of activity until the nineties). Its simply something that people often do in passwords... Thats were it comes from...

Furthermore, l33t speak can be spoken. You know you are at a hacker con when you can hear the zeros when someone says d00de.
