I'm back! :)

Drove up Rt 1 from LA. Thats a _really_ fun drive.

While I was gone, someone stole the 101's Fell St exit..

Well, I must say I'm a little disappointed. Originally I was like, Wow, Nick is blogging his trip across america, this ought to be cool. The list of access points out to Texas was very interesting, then BAM, you're in California. No more access points, no pictures, no whacky adventures, no observations on life and the countryside...

You could have produced a high tech Keruac here dude...

What happened to the Fell Street exit?

(U: OK, I hadn't notice some of you additional entries with more access points in there. I guess I just wanted more content to go with the access point lists... :) )

My next post will be a list of APs from Vegas to LA to SF. I guess I was only taking the AP list half seriously on the way out, as I didn't have GPS data, so it isn't exactly useful.. Its just "cute".

As for pictures, I had a disposable camera, so at some point I will get those developed and scan them. My digital camera got stolen awhile back..

As for wacky observations on life and the countryside.. I'm going to make "Nick's Guide of How to Get the Fuck out of Jersey" whenever I have the pictures..

Could have. But I guess I found myself more interested in driving 100 miles per hour while singing along with Frank Black tunes, then searching for places to write & post.. :) Yes, I know I'm lame.

Dude, they took it. Its gone. I was shocked, at first I thought I was in error about something, but no, I'm not nuts (in that way).. It was there, but its gone. The exit, the overpass, all of it, gone. There appears to be no even remotely easy way to get to the Sunset now. Or the Western Edition for that matter.. Everything dumps you downtown now.

Little things are different all over town actually.. Its clear I've been gone for two years.

I have a theory.. Traffic here is down, way down, from what it was when we used to commute from the city to the valley.. "Someone" has determined that commute times home must be the same, regardless of the eased traffic.. So in order to achieve this, they removed the Fell St exit to make sure it still takes you at least a hour and a half to get anywhere..

Just a theory..

Its interesting to note how many you can actually reach from the road. Apparently not that many relative to the distance you drove. I'm wondering if there are areas where IP roaming would work effectively due to the density of open access points.

Atlanta has changed tremendously since I was last here. Apparently the dot com boom hit here just late enough for it to immediately crash AFTER all sorts of construction projects were started, so the whole city is full of high end new-urbanist housing, and many of the construction projects are still in progress because they were started before the fall. The amazing thing is that these places are selling, I think mostly because interest rates are low, so home owners are selling their suburban houses and moving into these things...

I have to admit its not a bad time to do something like this... Look for things to be fucked up until 2007.
