The American government -- which we once called our government -- has been taken over by Wall Street, the mega-corporations and the super-rich. They are the ones who decide our fate. It is this group of powerful elites, the people President Franklin D. Roosevelt called "economic royalists," who choose our elected officials -- indeed, our very form of government. Both Democrats and Republicans dance to the tune of their corporate masters. In America, corporations do not control the government. In America, corporations are the government.

Rule number one of actually calling for a national strike - set the date before writing the oped piece.
I thought Krugman's sentiment this morning was also resonate:

But it’s hard to avoid the sense that a crucial opportunity is being missed, that we’re at what should be a turning point but are failing to make the turn.

Thats exactly right.

I've disagreed vehemently with Krugman's take on health care reform, but I love him dearly for pretty much everything else. TARP is a fucking crime scene and it's only going to get worse over the next 12 months. Obama reminds me of Bush on 9/12. He could've said anything, done anything, asked the entire world to raise their chins and live the ultimate ideal of peace and liberty, while wearing red socks and hopping on one foot. People would've done it. It was a golden moment, so rare that it's almost indescribable, to create truly lasting paradigm change. And he blew it. He had the world in his hands and he blew it. Almost literally.

Obama had an even bigger opportunity. Not a singular moment, but a movement. We're going to change things. We're going to be progressive and move in intelligent ways. And he's blown it. He's caved into the lobby and the idea that to truly make anything happen, he has to have his party foremost in his mind. Sorry Barack, but you've lost me.
