MemeStreams makes you smarter!
by Decius at 9:35 pm EST, Mar 9, 2003

] This section involves two tools, one for Windows, and one
] for OSX, which allow you to select text in any
] application, hit a hot key, and receive search results
] for that text. Both tools perform Google searches, and
] both have been adapted to perform MemeStreams searches as
] well.
]
] The power of these tools is that they extend searching
] such that it becomes a kind of augmented knowledge
] system. When you are reading or writing something, and
] you come upon a subject that you want more information
] about, you can get access to more information at the
] touch of a mouse.

There's a way to do this in Opera, which is available for linux/xwin.. basically you'd have to modify opera's search.ini .. there's pages in google that explain what you need to do, including :

http://www.schrode.net/opera/search/search_ini.html

I use this function of Opera all the time.. which is one of the things that keeps me using it even though it doesn't work properly on some pages (including memestreams..).

to search google for something :
ctrl-n (new window) + "g search string" = google page I want
ctrl-n (new window) + "yp search string" = yp.yahoo san francisco search..

(etc)

Anyway, just a suggestion. :)
