Is anyone else freaked out by that large, aptly named "DIRECT ACCESS" arrow?
It raises some security questions, but it also addresses a fundamental issue that always frustrated me about the web - the advantage of computer media over television is its ability to enable the user to enter the conversation. The web was disappointing to me because it is a mostly passive media. Getting things like MemeStreams to work required a heck of a lot of hacking - the web wasn't designed for true many to many interation. Perhaps people are now prepared to interact with the network on a different level - one that automatically facilitates access to the information that they are creating just as readily as if facilitates access to the information that others have created. Privacy and security are fundamental parts of getting that to happen properly, but they aren't reasons to say no - they enable yes. RE: Freaky Opera Project |
