I can only assume this profound mischaracterization of Biden's record was arrived at through the tired assumption that democrats are "soft" on crime, republicans are "tough," and therefore "moderates" are democrats who support harsh laws. Joe Biden is exactly the reason such stereotypes should be avoided by responsible journalists.

Perhaps they felt he'd appeal to Clinton supporters.

Obama's domestic policies aren't Bidens, and Biden was not selected for VP for his domestic policies or experience.

My thoughts no the subject are a bit awkward, but I believe Biden's record is meaningless at this point. It feels to me that he is just being used as a pawn for the Obama campaign to cash in on the 'hard on crime' / 'hard on _____' crowd. Thoughts?

P.S. Basically I think i just described modern day politics.

I don't think they're cashing in on that stuff whatsoever. In fact, I think Biden's domestic views are a liability, because they conflict with the Obama vision and Obama is already winning there. Biden was picked for his foreign policy experience, where Obama is weaker.
