BTW, I'm not sure this is true. Its possible that Palin wanted her out because she supported Palin's opponent in the election. It may be more likely to mean that Palin wants yes men who will sacrifice their personal convictions in favor of "administration agendas" than that Palin wants to censor books. There is no smoking gun. |

Why would you ask about censoring books if it wasn't on your fundy brain? |

WASILLA -- Back in 1996, when she first became mayor, Sarah Palin asked the city librarian if she would be all right with censoring library books should she be asked to do so. According to news coverage at the time, the librarian said she would definitely not be all right with it. A few months later, the librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, got a letter from Palin telling her she was going to be fired. The censorship issue was not mentioned as a reason for the firing. The letter just said the new mayor felt Emmons didn't fully support her and had to go.

I understand they are looking for the librarian now. There were other witnesses about her stand on censorship in this fiasco up there in Wasilla when it happened. The books in question had 'objectionable language.' The story has yet to come out because there has been a delay in locating and interviewing the librarian, but that has been scheduled as I understand. In any event, it is totally in line with a lot of pentecostal fundamental thought, and that IS what she is, a pentecostal, so I do believe this happened. |
