Daily Show on Republican hypocrisy - Boing Boing by Decius at 3:12 pm EDT, Sep 4, 2008 |
The Daily Show has a segment with video clips of Dick Morris, Karl Rove, Bill O'Reilly, and others complaining about the media's unfair treatment of Sarah Palin, along with earlier video clips of these folks dishing out the same garbage about others...
The most important clip set is the first one, wherein Rove talks about qualifications and experience. |

This is cute, and nicely packaged, but hardly revelatory. We're talking about Karl Rove here. A selection from the archive: I wonder, when was the last time a talk show changed a mind?
I used to wonder at such people, but more and more I wonder at myself.
Highlights from the last campaign season: "It takes half a second for a baby to throw up all over your sweater. It takes hours to get it clean." People used to complain that selling a president was like selling a bar of soap. But when you buy soap, at least you get the soap. Moore unfurled what is perhaps the central insight of his oeuvre, that Americans are kind of crappy.

When I see well educated libertarians literally falling over backwards to find some angle to proclaim Palin, a very conservative christian, as one of theirs, I have to say, it hardly seems worth talking about politics. Objective discussion about policy cannot be fruitful if people cannot accept reality as a starting point and the greatest weakness of human beings is our ability to deceive ourselves when we want something to be true. |

The whole 'Libertarian but vote Republican' thing is bullshit. Those people are not Libertarians. They are Republicans. You can't embrace the kind of bigotry the Republicans sell unless you don't give a fuck about the groups they 'kick in the teeth' to get elected, and when was the last time a Republican agenda resembled anything remotely Libertarian? Its still an alliance of values, and has nothing to do with policy. |

Basically this could be summed up with 2 phrases: 1) I ate your chocolate squirrel 2) I love lamp |

Ah, so I wasn't the only one watching the RNC and saying, "Wait, most of the things they're complaining about, their party is responsible for." I was also astonished to see that all the buses bringing delegates in were full-length. |

This is the real tragedy of the whole system. We've got very good at falling for this. Just because you say it over and over again, doesn't mean it's true. This goes for both sides. Reminds me of the old adage, when someone is smiling, they're probably selling you something. |
