What's behind the DoD's asinine reaction to WiFi 'Peril:?

] "WiFi is scaring the government not because it's a tool
] of terrorism but because it's a tool of unregulated
] political dissent. "

This article misses the giant economic impact of giving away free 802.11 access on the business models of the major carriers/service providers, some of whom have spent billions on G3 license purchases. But it's still a fun little rant.

Yet another paranoid conspiracy theory based on the government's internet security plan, which I discussed here a few days ago. This is SO silly its annoying that the three of you actually recommended it. Annalee Newitz just lost a lot of cred in my book.

The government is trying to educate people about securing WiFi systems. This is obviously in the context of people who do not want to run "open" wifi networks but are because they either cannot secure them or because they don't know that they are supposed to.

No one is trying to stop you from setting up open WiFi devices. Nothing about the document remotely suggests that. No one has suggested that intentionally open wifi networks are a security problem. Thats stupid. Its a product of Newitz's imagination.

Furthermore, her understanding of both security technologies and wireless interference is essentially non-existant, and all three of you know enough to know that her technical arguements don't make any sense. Ultra-wide band is "interference free." And the cow jumped over the moon.

I don't know, dude. It looks to me like Adam just said it was a fun little rant and that's all.

Chill...Pill...
