HP Aims To Improve Software Management -- Hewlett-Packard -- InformationWeek by Acidus at 4:53 pm EST, Feb 6, 2008 |
Nine out of the world's top 11 security hackers came to HP through the SPI Dynamics acquisition, he boasts, although it's not immediately clear who ranked those top 11.
Just in case the world missed the memo. ... ... [sigh] I can't even think of what to say about this. Expressing oneself through charts is a good idea. |

Remind me to tell you about the time I was called one of the World's Top Ten Hackers by people in Korea... |

This seems a lot calmer then your previous reply. For those who missed it before you tried to delete: Anyone who reads this knows he has nothing backing this statement up. 9 of 11? To make such a claim is grossly insulting to all the brilliant people out their in the security space. HP is not going to be taken seriously as a software company, let allow solutions provider for enterprise security when CTOs make claims like this. It makes us (which unfortunately includes me) look foolish indeed.

Why force his previous thoughts to be posted publicly? It seems obvious that one might reconsider the tact with which one made a hastily crafted blog post calling out a foolish statement by the upper management of one's own company. Its a shame but large companies are full of people who can only tell the difference between right and wrong by looking at the rank of the person making the statement. Many people have faced political pressure or job loss for flippant comments made in blogs, even when they were in the right. MemeStreams is a public forum, and people are allowed to edit their posts here because the Internet makes it easy to put your foot in your mouth. If we hold every blogger to the standard that we hold CTOs in formal press communications, our online discourse will be significantly diminished, I think. |
