So the other day I asked: If “good design” is more important than ever, then why is (the basically hideous) MySpace so popular?

Because anyone can create a horrible web page and they do, bad design is normalized and there is a low barrier of entry for people to participate. Noone is self conscious about their horrible myspace page, and so they flourish.
