Dept. Of It's Good To Be King: Beloved DC Think Tank Calls For Bush To Nuke Iraq and Become World Dictator by Mike the Usurper at 2:12 pm EDT, Oct 26, 2007 |
The wisest course would have been for President Bush to use his nuclear weapons to slaughter Iraqis until they complied with his demands, or until they were all dead. Then there would be little risk or expense and no American army would be left exposed. But if he did this, his cowardly electorate would have instantly ended his term of office, if not his freedom or his life.
And this is the sort of thing that passes for Serious Thought over on the right, I mean lunatic fringe. If this came to pass, of course the "cowardly electorate" would have tossed him on front of a speeding train! The course of action described here would have shown him to be a monster on a par with Hitler as opposed to a monstrous bumbler on a par with Mussolini. |

Wonkette is claiming that this entire think tank has vanished of the Internet. That isn't true. They also conjecture that Woolsey must have used his CIA connections to get this document pulled out of Google's cache. That sounds just a few shades from talk of space aliens. I certainly don't take "Family Security Matters" seriously but I think they'd have the presence of mind not to openly call for a military overthrow of the Unites States Government. Without some evidence that this actually was written by the referenced author and actually posted on the website in question I have to say that occam's razor suggests an internet hoax. |

Sorry Tom, but no. When the freeprs are jumping on it too (here) then no. Occam's razor means the simplest solution is usually correct, except of course when the simplest solution is, this guy really is that big a whack job, and the people involved want to now put as much distance as possible between them and him, because if they do not, they're whack jobs by association. Since the methodology of the right is to denounce their enemies and cover up their own malfeasance, it also fits right in with their standard MO, again making it the simplest solution, and fulfilling Occam's razor in a very screwed up way. Which is more likely, he did it and they tried to bury it, or it was invented, the FSM website got fiddled with to show a blank, but not error page, Google cashing has the pointers, the freeprs got sucked in by a left wing hoax, etc. No, the simplest solution is, he did it and it got yanked. |

This doesn't require much fiddling. Any invalid article ID number shows that blank page. Google cashing has the pointers,
Google doesn't have anything that bloggers didn't put there themselves. These terms only appear in links pointing to this page: the freeprs got sucked in by a left wing hoax,
'cause there is no way that could ever happen, they'd never fall for a ruse! Look, I've spent a lot of time googling this. There is no evidence that this guy ever wrote anything on that site. Having said that, I did find a bit of information that points in the direction you suggest, albeit inconclusive. This screen shot includes a list of articles by the same author. The author's name is misspelled in one of the article titles (Phillp?). That is a strike against the potential validity of this screenshot, as you'd think he would have noticed that they misspelled his name in the title of an article, but its not impossible. The article list does have a huge strike in it's favor. A few of the articles there appear to have been reposted on the Internet in the past, and they list him as being a contributor to that site. That does seem to significantly reduce the possibility that this is a hoax, but its not conclusive proof. If it is real, they've done quite a good job of covering it up. |

U.S. Conservative calls for military coup of U.S. Government by Decius at 6:29 pm EDT, Oct 26, 2007 |
I'm not sure if this is real. See the thread for details. If it is real, its basically everything the left told you to worry about, but fortunately this view is at least marginalized enough that the organization Wonkette touts as having gone out in support of this idea has done an extensive job of destroying every shred of evidence that they were ever associated with it or it's author. Whether this is because they are horrified by this idea and any thought that they might be associated with it, or if its because you're not supposed to talk about fight club, is really impossible to know. In fact, without more information its impossible to know if this really happened. That question in itself makes this interesting. If President Bush copied Julius Caesar by ordering his army to empty Iraq of Arabs and repopulate the country with Americans, he would achieve immediate results: popularity with his military; enrichment of America by converting an Arabian Iraq into an American Iraq (therefore turning it from a liability to an asset); and boost American prestiege while terrifying American enemies. He could then follow Caesar’s example and use his newfound popularity with the military to wield military power to become the first permanent president of America, and end the civil chaos caused by the continually squabbling Congress and the out-of-control Supreme Court.
