Its really there to prevent a post-bomb, which is the scenario where someone posts a variable of infinite length to crash the server. I think it could be made much longer. This is the first time anyone has ever hit the limit. The thing is that Mitnick's chapter is SO long that it is a little unwieldy as a MemeStreams article.
