I hadn't heard about this until now. I don't spend a lot of time in "Buckhead" proper, because I feel much more akin to bars in Decatur. Hopefully Fados won't get bulldozed....it was my favorite bar down there.
I have extremely mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I didn't go to Buckhead much because I didn't dig the frat-boy, meat-market atmosphere up there, so even assuming I stay in Atlanta, I won't miss it personally. On the other hand, it was one of the few places in the city with a legitimate, out-on-the-streets, urban night-life feel to it, all of which is gone now for good. As dead as Atlanta already was as an urban center, it's so much more so now. Atlanta city planners have heads firmly planted in ass, and I just don't think they're going to figure out that more shopping and roads aren't the way to go, and fewer bars, all of which are discrete and require driving to get to, doesn't make for a fun town. It's depressing. Atlanta is a city with more potential than almost any other I know, but they absolutely will not capitalize on that potential. It's sad. This place is gonna deflate within 10 years.
