Everything is going down, about half of buckhead was torn down last month. My favorite hole in the wall, Mako's, was gone early June. Fado's has an interesting story. They had used only like 15 years of a 99 year lease. So, in a deal to buy them out to tear down the building, the Buckhead Alliance is going to build them a new, 2 story, 3 times as big building about 2 blocks away from the current location. But for now, Fado's will remain open in it's current spot for a few more weeks at least. It is going to be interesting to see what happens to this neighborhood after this. Many people moved into condo and apartment complexes about 3-4 blocks from the entertainment district for the sole reason of being close. With the millionaires kicking out the "rif raf", the place is probably going to be dead at night except for the chain high end restaurants. The convention industry is going to take a hit in a year or two, as people learn this marvel of mankind, ~250 liquor liscences in a dozen city blocks, is gone. But, I am glad they really thought it through. RE: It's last call for Atlanta party district - Los Angeles Times |
