Cenk Uygur: Bill Maher is Wrong: Libby is the Straw That Broke the Camel's Back - The Huffington Post by Decius at 1:57 am EDT, Jul 4, 2007 |
they think they are above us. We know that none of us could get away with what they have done. This commutation (who doesn't hate this clunky word?) shows to the average guy that these people aren't held to the same standards as the rest of us. They can get away with crimes because they are powerful.
I just made this observation. This is a simple idea that resonates. If the 4th holiday doesn't divert the public's attention the blowback could be loud. |

I'm still skeptical. Once I'd have agreed, but after the past 6 years i honestly have lost faith that anything, ANYTHING will get certain people to realize how wrong this administration is. I think this will blow over, just like everything else has. |

Likely, but not certain. Iraq was not an issue when it counted, in 2004, but for some reason the people caught up, albeit too late. Katrina was not an issue in 2006 because the press was afraid to touch it. The NSA issue is actually still an issue, but largely because the Republicans want it to be an issue. This Libby decision is different because its entirely a product of Washington. No one is going off to die for it, there is no national security interest in it's continued operation, and its not a scar that impacts an entire region of the country. Its a simple thing to complain about and there is no cost associated with complaining. Furthermore, it doesn't matter whether or not you think Libby is guilty or if you understand the case or if you think it was a "sham trial." It doesn't matter. All that is important is that you understand that this was hypocritical. The entire Republican party is teed up by this, and only the most incompetent competition would fail to knock them out of the park. Unless, of course, the Democrats are afraid of having to eat their words lest they have an interest in indulging in similar corruptions. |
