I can't handle the inconvenient truth
by possibly noteworthy at 10:13 pm EDT, Jun 11, 2007

Increasingly, the national conversational agenda is being set not by costly dramatic films with stars like Gregory Peck and Julia Roberts but by low-budget documentaries starring portly, middle-aged men.

... people who will not pay to see documentaries are being locked out of important national debates.

If you are looking for a worthy documentary, check out Iraq in Fragments. You can rent it today; it goes on sale next month.

Living in a small town, there's no place to go SEE the documentaries. I think the lesson is that people DO want to learn, and they do want to see commentaries on serious subjects. I think that is very positive in America's so anti-intellectual culture of past few years.

I'm excited that perhaps one day Pay Per View will have them as they are released for those of us in rural areas.

I love documentaries - Google Video is a good friend.

Audiobooks are also becoming a bigger force I think on the social/political scene. People that would never pick up a book are starting to listen to the audiobooks.

Sigh - if only all information could be ...free... For now, at least there are libraries.
