Rebuild of Evangelion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
by Shannon at 12:41 pm EDT, May 14, 2007

In September 2006, the October edition of the Japanese anime magazine Newtype first reported that the new cinema series "Rebuild of Evangelion" would be released in the summer of 2007. [1] On September 9, 2006, GAINAX's official website confirmed that "Rebuild of Evangelion" will consist of four movies. The first three movies will be an alternate retelling of the TV series (including many new scenes, settings, backgrounds, characters), and the fourth movie will be a completely new conclusion to the story; the series is intended to be accessible to non-fans[2]

It's only been a little over a decade and they're already remaking Evangelion... Although since it has the same director/writer as the original, and considering how the original ended I suppose this might also be a sequel. It will be interesting to see if they make Eva more coherent or less.

[ Unless David Lynch is directing it, it could hardly get less coherent, so I'm hopeful. I liked the series but that was in spite of it's insanity, not because of it... -k]

Heh... That's ironic because insanity is central to the original plot. Without the Freudian references and characterizations there isn't much left. There's the religious arrogance of man of recreating God in his own image, but even still it uses Freud to manufacture a soul with Rei(ego), Shinji(super-ego), and Asuka(id). Most of the rest of the characters are samples of insanity based on the conflict between id and super-ego.

I think the insanity helped the series... I think it was the post-modern stringing together of bullshit it could have done with less of.

hm, i suppose i may have worded my comment wrongly, because i actually agree with what you said. it seemed to me that the relationships between the three pilots was, as you say, interesting, though I'm not topically exepert enough to have seen very deeply into the psychology.

I don't know, maybe i just liked the big explosions and robots. -k
