San Francisco Bans Plastic Bags
by SierraNightTide at 1:16 pm EDT, Mar 28, 2007

San Francisco's Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to become the first U.S. city to ban plastic bags from large supermarkets to help promote recycling.

Some experts say the bags are one of the biggest sources of pollution in the cities. But how will this affect both the small and large merchants? How will this affect consumers?

Aren't bags one of the things you can make with recycled plastic?
Isn't the process for recycling paper much worse for the air than plastic?

Actually I heard some great debates on this on anther board. Such as this could drive up the costs of groceries
Tree Farming would increase
This could work if grocery stores offered canvas bags and gave a discount for using them

I think ther is a lot of room for options and this could work if product branding and advertising joined forces.
