Born and raised in Boston. Pittsburgh homeowner. I would love to return to Boston, but only if I could maintain a similar standard of living... but that would be a very dramatic raise indeed.
Having grown up in Connecticut, and seeing my brother move to Mass. I have seen a first hand view of the changes that are going on in New England. House prices in New Hampshire are skyrocketing, due to the "urban sprawl" effect. Open area that I played on as a child, now hold 9 homes, in the space of about 1.5 acres. Taxes are still rising, crime is rising, home prices are rising, it doesn't seem like it's a great place to live. My ideal place to live now is on several acres of land, way outside the sprawl, where I can put up a fence, bring in a T1, and have a nice quiet bit of nature. Of course, that too will become crowded, as I grow into my retirement years, so I'll have to make sure that I have room for my extended family on adjacent land too... -- dc0de |
