Yeah, it always bugged me not understanding what it was for but I never researched it. Makes sense though.

You might find 44100 Explained interesting as well. 44100 seemed arbitrary until I found out what the reasoning was.

Also very interesting... it's remarkable to think about how many things we take for granted have such a long and complex history.
