Apple - Trailers - Are We Done Yet? - Small

Let me get this right...

They remade The Money Pit.

But with Ice Cube.

Is that right?

Well, Ice Cube is the black Tom Hanks.

Interesting. Is there further evidence to support this assertion?

I may have to pull up imdb and do some research on the matter.

It doesn't hurt that John C. "Bob Slydell / Dr. Perry Cox" McGinley is in attendance.

Incidentally, as further proof of my assertion, the wife is played by Nia Long, who, as you'll certainly be realizing just now while these pointless connecting words enter your optic nerve, shares a last name with Hank's erstwhile movie paramour, Shelley Long.

Coincidence? I'm going to pretend to think not!

;)

Well, let's see...
Martin Lawrence is too stupid, and all the Waynes brothers are to strict to comedy or not ubiquitous enough, Eddie Murphy is almost there but he's just not endearing enough, Snipes and Samuel Jackson are too bad ass (even though Snipes did take a drag role). So, it could only be Ice Cube or Morgan Freeman.
I'd push toward Ice Cube just because he wasn't taken seriously as an actor when he started, while Morgan Freeman was. Plus Ice Cube is a much more universal plug-in (like Tom Hanks). Tom Hanks and Ice Cube can pull off the right sort of goofy when they need to and still not ruin the drama. Ice Cube does this much better than Freeman. Freeman is to Harrison Ford what Ice Cube is to Tom Hanks. Therefore, Ice Cube must be the black tom hanks.

[ Fascinating. I'm forced to see the logic in your assessment, as strange as it is for the universe to have produced a man who would etch a path which starts in the gangsta rap Hood and proceeds to acting as a middle aged dad doing home repairs in the countryside.

As it happens, the former is my preferred incarnation, though there were stops along the way, such as Friday, which made the journey ultimately a good thing, i suppose.

On the topic of Eddie Murphy, all I can say is that the mighty often fall, and few fall as far or as hard as Mr. "Raw" himself. Sad. -k]
