Moonie papers, madrassas, Clinton, and Obama by Rattle at 4:07 am EST, Jan 23, 2007 |
Allegations that Sen. Barack Obama was educated in a radical Muslim school known as a "madrassa" are not accurate, according to CNN reporting. Insight Magazine, which is owned by the same company as The Washington Times, reported on its Web site last week that associates of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-New York, had unearthed information the Illinois Democrat and likely presidential candidate attended a Muslim religious school known for teaching the most fundamentalist form of Islam. Obama lived in Indonesia as a child, from 1967 to 1971, with his mother and stepfather and has acknowledged attending a Muslim school, but an aide said it was not a madrassa. "It's not (an) Islamic school. It's general," Winadijanto said. "There is a lot of Christians, Buddhists, also Confucian. ... So that's a mixed school."
This is really interesting. I had no idea that Obama spent a part of his childhood growing up in Indonesia. As a smear tactic, this already backfired. I wonder if the "madrassa" thing was leaked specifically to backfire like this. It appears this is not only going to be easy to spin as a Moonie plot against the Democrats, but it will be a tool to show that Obama has a better understanding of the world than people think, regardless of if it's true or not. Were the Moonie papers just used as a clever pawn? This is not the kryptonite you are looking for. |

I don't think this was a liberal plot. Fox News seems to have done a good job of offering their viewers two choices: Either Obama is an Islamist, or Clinton is a diry politician. Either way, its good for Republicans. I don't really know anything about Obama, but I keep running into stary eyed liberal girls who tell me how dreamy he is. Given what I do know about Clinton, my ignorance is to Obama's advantage at this point. As President, I have a feeling Islamists would have a harder time fitting him into their conspiracy theories than GW. That might be useful. |

So you think it is a right-wing conspiracy rather than a liberal plot? It's got to be one or the other, with a very small possibility of a mysterious Moonie agenda... Otherwise my entire view of American politics, as well as the majority of the nation's view, will crumble into a pile of rationality.. And we know that is completely impossible. American's polarized politics don't work that way. It's either liberal plot, conservative conspiracy, or an alien master plan extending back to the character assassination of Ross Perot.. |

Yeah, i also thought that this could have been a purposeful leak in order to inoculate obama from it later. No assurances of course, but still. I don't think this has traction. Later issues may, of course. As a sidenote, I have a picture of myself in front of that very same statue ;) -k |

And if you would have posted that picture with your reply, you would have instantly been credited 1337 krad points. |

I have no doubt that the media will try to politically assasinate this man, just like they did Howard Dean. I've already heard "Obama-nation" several times on major news shows. Even in jest, some idjits take that shit to heart and they know it. I think it is all just fear mongering to discredit an unknown that is a bit too charasmatic. As a democrat, I wouldn't be suprised if Hilary is behind it. As for conspiracy theories, well, Hilary is THE one that attended the last Bilderberg conference. The media will probably back her as the democratic contender. |
