I believe we have a right to see this before it is signed into law.
Of course, but no one is passing a law in secret here. This hasn't been handed over for approval by elected officials yet. Aside from the secrecy aspect of this, I fear what happens if this passes then we have another amnesty. I do not believe we should reward illegal behavior.
So, in other words they are NOT paying social security benefits to illegal immigrants. When this advocacy group said that, they were LYING. They are paying social security benefits to legal immigrats who worked legally. The argument that you are making is that if a foreign national pays the same social security taxes that you pay, they should not be able to collect the same social security benefits that you collect. This is reasonable how? Amnesty for illegals is an unrelated discussion, frankly. If you oppose this you must oppose it even if amnesty didn't occur. This is about US sovereignty and whether we want to keep it or not. This issue is central to whether we will remain a Constitutional Republic, or become a superstate. It's incrementalism, and this is just one issue out of many on the plate.
I will never understand why Americans would be afraid that Mexico and Canada are going usurp their national sovereignty. Ooooo Mexico, sooo scary... Someday they'll enslave us all!!! Give me a break. As a legal immigrant to the US, I can earn social security benefits from the social security taxes that I paid, legally, prior to becoming a citizen. I want you to explain to me exactly why its a threat to the national sovereignty of the United States for me to collect on the social security that I paid into? Keep in mind that Canadians have been able to do this for a long time, and frankly, these cross border agreements are very helpful to families that live and work in different countries. Americans working in Canada get the same benefit. RE: Agreement on Social Security Between The United States of America and The United Mexican States |
