Men's Room Mural
by Palindrome at 12:26 am EST, Jan 3, 2007

Edge Designs is an all-women run company that designs interior office space. They had a recent opportunity to do an office project in NYC. The client allowed the women of this company a free hand in all design aspects. The client was a company that was also run by all women execs. The result, well, we all know that men never talk, never look at each other, and never laugh much in the restroom. The men's room is a serious and quiet place, but now, with the addition of one mural on the wall......lets just say the men's restroom is a place of laughter and smiles.

I was sent this image and figured I would share. Unfortunately there are not embedded images here so clink on the linky

I don’t know where you got the information on Edge Design from but it’s totally fictitious. I am the Marketing Manager at Perron Developments in New Zealand. We designed and produced this mens room wall in the Sofitel Hotel in Queenstown which our company developed. It has been widely acclaimed for nearly 2 years now but not until now “claimed” by someone else. If the Edge Design NYC really exists you would have to wonder why they need to rip someone else’s idea off like this.

Cute, but not a mens room I'd like to use. I have various reasons, but fundamentally it's because I think mens rooms aren't anti-social enough. In other words, left to my own devices, I'd go the other direction, ideally.

That being said, I can't help considering the sociological questions. Do you think users of that mens room will form habits based on their particular attractions to one or more of the various models? What about the sexuality of the pose or the look on their face? Will some urinals get more use than others because men would rather piss in front of the astonished looking blonde than the playfully judgemental one with the tape measure? Will they prefer the less hot (to them) ones so they don't accidentally get a Stabone while trying to urinate?

So many questions.

I guess I'm in favor of this existing if only for the thought experiment.

I think this is such creative artwork! Wonderful idea! I do have a suggestion for the next men's room mural (hoping there will be many more): Can you have more diversity among the women? ...maybe one or two who are a little more voluptuous, some women of color (Asian, African, Latina) and no judgement on their faces and no measuring tape! If we had to try on bras in a similar environment with gorgeous men on the wall, we'd rather have them looking back with looks of wow!, admiration, you're beautiful! It would still be funny, but not play into the so common worry of adequacy.

How can I send this on to Edge Design?

Absolutely worth looking at - pretty funny. But it looks like the real story is that it's in a Sofitel hotel.
