Scientology comes to Clearwater, FL - Disturbing Video
by skullaria at 10:04 pm EST, Dec 26, 2006

This is disturbing.

"Scientology snuck into Clearwater, Florida in 1978 under the assumed name of United Churches. Since then they have come to dominate the ... all ยป small town.

I lived in Clearwater for two years, working with a group which was helping people defrauded and abused by Scientology. During this time, police officers started to accept off duty jobs from Scientology. I documented the police officer's bias during that time. The police department accepted $176,000 a year from Scientology and was called by some "Scientology's police force."

First of all, to make an issue of the Church of Scientology "coming" to Clearwater is like saying "Yale comes to Connecticut." The Church of Scientology's headquarters in Clearwater have been there for four decades at least, so this is a complete non-story.

Secondly, Mark Bunker is part of a small bunch of anti-religion haters whose purpose is to harrass the Church of Scientology with lawsuits. Hardly a non-biases source.

Third, Bunker's information is, well, bunk.

The Church of Scientology does a lot of good in the local community. Bunker twists everyhing around to make it seem sinister or weird. The fact that off-duty cops get hired as security, for example: there is nothing unusual or strange about this.

The truth about the Church of Scientology is much simpler. A small new philosophy was founded in 1954 and defied the established Big Pharma industry with the premise that people don't need drugs to get better, that people can help themselves improve their lives and the lives of others. From that point on, Scientology has been attacked in the media by the dogs of Big Pharma. See http://www.cchr.org for more info.

Sincerely,
Greg

I suppose I really take issue with all the punching of cameras, and side swipes at journalists that I see. That really disturbed me in that video.
