6th grader Tasered at Middle School in Georgia
by skullaria at 6:40 pm EST, Dec 3, 2006

There's a survey on the site.

"Channel 2 was told the incident began after something happened at lunch to spark a verbal argument between two 6th graders. The verbal argument turned physical and a school resource officer with the Jonesboro Police Department says she had to resort to using a taser.

School officials confirm that an 11-year-old, 6th grade male was tasered by a school resource officer. They say the boy was physically assaulting a female 6th grader and refused to listen to verbal commands to stop. As a last resort the officer tasered the boy twice – once to get the students separated and a second time when the boy tried to attack the girl again.

The male student was taken to juvenile detention – the female was treated by emergency personnel and released to her parents.

Opinions are split on whether this kind of force should be used a school"

(I hope they consider why the students were not immediately separated & out of concurrent sight as soon as the verbal altercation started.)

I heard about a stupid-simple altercation at a high school in Huntsville where a teacher requested that a student pick up a piece of paper he'd thrown on the floor. When the student refused, the teacher requested he go to the administrative office. When he refused, the teacher led him by the arm to the office. Along the way to the office, the two happened upon the resource officer, who offered to assist. When the officer grabbed the student's other arm, the student attempted to break free of the officer and in doing so shoved himself into the officer. Whereupon the officer placed the student under arrest for assaulting an officer and he still had to go to the office on return to the school.

Long story short... one has to wonder why/how this wound up being a taser case instead of a mixed back of officer assault, resisting, etc. Granted, the kid is eleven years old. But this also does seem to indicate that the resource officer was pretty quick to shoot.
