Mom kills social worker and takes back child by skullaria at 4:56 pm EDT, Oct 17, 2006 |
HENDERSON, Kentucky (AP) -- Police found a social worker slain in a western Kentucky home and issued an Amber Alert for the 10-month-old boy the woman had taken to the house for a visit with his mother, authorities said Tuesday. The child's mother, Renee Terrell, 33, of Henderson, did not have custody of her developmentally disabled son, police said. She and her boyfriend, Christopher Wayne Luttrell, 23, were both missing Tuesday and were believed to have the child. ..... "It's a dangerous job anytime you're taking someone's child away from their parents," Duncan said. "You know how protective parents can be." The article never mentions why it was neccessary for CPS to take the child in the first place. I'd think that should be a big part of the artile. I am suprised more social workers aren't killed. From what I've observed, I don't believe the legal system is fair or constitutional when it comes to CPS; it often leaves parents feeling backed into a corner and desparate. |

[ That may be, of course, but a friend of mine who did that work in Texas has told me some horror stories. I'm sure all those parents were enraged and felt like killing her, but then again, those fuckers locked their kids in closets and beat the shit out of them. I don't claim that CPS is fair, and I don't even have a single stat to say they're good "overall". Still, my personal experience is that the person I know prevented the torture of children. Course, I'm halfway tempted to require parenting tests, but then i start thinking that reproduction is the second (maybe the first) most fundamental human right, blah blah blah. Anyway, CPS may be wack, but, truth be told, if these folks resorted to murder, they're probably not good parents; romantic notions of vigilante justice against the evil government taking away their kid are probably nonsense. Not to mention, they're almost certain to lose the kid now. And their freedom. And possibly their lives. All that being said, it would've been nice to get more than a single line about why the child was taken in the first place. It's impossible to say one way or another if this was a legitimate intervention based on the article. -k] |

I guess they thought the fact that they were cold blooded and murderous probably meant it was for the best . I am suprised more social workers aren't killed. Why pursue legal recourse when you can kill people? This is exactly what kids of today are in need of. Besides, social workers obviously need to die... how dare they do their god damn job. Fuck these people. |

CNN reports that CPS was fixing to let the child be adopted. The sad thing is that someone is dead, and now the parents will go to jail and never see their child again. I'm not in any way defending murder or condemning the victim, I'm only questioning a very unjust system that I feel contributed to this. If you look at statistics, more children die and are injured in foster care than in family homes. |
