Teen questioned for online Bush threats - Yahoo! News by Mike the Usurper at 2:50 am EDT, Oct 15, 2006 |
Federal authorities had found the page and placed Wilson on their checklist. They finally reached her this week in her molecular biology class. The 14-year-old freshman was taken out of class Wednesday and questioned for about 15 minutes by two Secret Service agents.
The War on Terror is over. Terror has won. |

I don't know that this really means that. Remember, the SS must follow up on all threats, even though the staggering majority of them turn out to be things like this. Yeah, they probably could have waited until the school day was over, but it was just a 15 minute "fussing at" and these guys do have other, actually-maybe-in-theory more important things to also investigate. I really do feel sorry for them having to personally follow up on stuff like this. Remember, when the Nashville 2600 meetings were happening at Bean Central, at one point a deluded local (who is no longer "with" the "organization" because of an informal "beat his ass" referendum) used one of the kiosks there to send a semi-illiterate threatning email to the White House, Secret Service agents were there to check it out the next day (a Saturday!). This was long before all the silliness of 9/11. |

Yep. The problem here is not so much what they're doing, it's how. They know they're dealing with a 14 year old, they've already talked to the mother, and now they go to the school to scare the crap out of her? Way to get people to believe in their government. If the point is to tell the kid this isn't a good idea, and they've already talked to mom, why not ask mom to come down to the school with them while they go over this with the kid? The mom feels like they're being reasonable, the kid feels safer, and the Secret Service guys look like the Secret Service and not the SS. |
