Could I just add that deep-fried "alternative" foods have been around in Scotland for many years. Including, I am told, a deep-friend Mars Bar wrapped in fatty meats and dipped in batter. The shop owner limits his customers to one a week in the interests of health and safety. How thoughtful.

Scotland, by the way, has among the highest heart disease rates in the developed world. I wonder why?
