9/11 Live: The NORAD Tapes

How did the U.S. Air Force respond on 9/11? Could it have shot down United 93, as conspiracy theorists claim? Obtaining 30 hours of never-before-released tapes from the control room of NORAD's Northeast headquarters, the author reconstructs the chaotic military history of that day.

Tom, your link here leaves out the part the Vanity Fair has in their headline and appears to deliberately misplace the period. You may want to quote the article with better standards than those used by Bill O'Reilly.

Well, frankly, from reading the article I didn't get the impression that the government was actually trying to cover anything up, and so I didn't think that text was actually useful in describing why the article was interesting. I think VF threw it in there to make the article seem more dramatic then it is. I think its dramatic enough in its actual reality.

Yawn. This stuff was in United 93. (The author was involved, as he explains.) None of this should be the least bit surprising at this point. This guy is making a big deal of the fact that his FOIA request actually came through, but the dialogue they presented in the film is very, very similar to what he excerpts here.

VF is a little late to the game. Their 'score' here seems to be an exclusive interview with some conspiracy nut who ends up admitting to himself that there is no conspiracy. Zzzzz.

"How good would it have looked for the government in general if we still couldn't have stopped the fourth plane an hour and 35 minutes [into the attack]?" Azzarello asked. "How good would it have looked if there was a total breakdown in communication and nothing worked right?"

This is just scary.
