Apparently Americans don't give a fuck about hockey.

American's don't seem to care much about soccer (football everywhere else) either. Both of these sports are similar as far as the nature of the game goes.. I have no idea what the reason is why American's don't like these two sports. I don't like team sports in general, so I could just be missing something..

When looking at the nature of the games, soccer and hockey are basically the same. There is a goal at either end. There is a token players try to get to the goal. There are rules for how the token can be moved. The rest just involves pucks and balls, ice and grass, and sticks and feet. Due to the ice, sticks, and physics, pads are worn in hockey. In hockey, occasionally the players kick each other's asses. In soccer, occasionally the fans kick each other's asses. You'd think Americans would be into it.

I have always though there is a bit of a language hack in play. Everywhere else in the world, soccer is football. Here football is what "American football" is everywhere else. There is a namespace collision that goes beyond just the english language. There is an amazing following for "football" everywhere. Hockey is only really uber popular places where there is naturally occurring ice. That makes sense.

It does make sense that NASCAR is becoming uber popular in America. American's love cars. I love my car. I love driving it fast. We have a truly great highway system. I see how people are competitive on the highway. It all makes sense. I'd expect car racing to become popular. Is the deal that we just don't like team sports unless it's like war?
