Chron.com | Drinking May Have Fueled Ala. Church Fires by finethen at 8:31 am EST, Mar 10, 2006 |
Federal and state authorities have not commented on a possible motive, beyond evidence that an apparent prank spun out of control. Defense attorneys have not commented either, but say the fires were not crimes of hate.
What is going on with teenage boys in this country? Church fires (in "Bombingham")as a alcohol fuled prank? Homeless men beat to death as a "joke"? How can people so young be so violent and destructive? |

Theyve cut too much violence and destruction out of tv and video games. Kids need something to do with that kind of boredom |

I should re-word- its shocking that anyone, of any age, would consider these actions jokes. I would be less shocked if they were motivated by something- anything! |

All kids this age are brain damaged and they never get enough sex. If these guys had been getting laid more, they wouldn't be burning down churches. |

How? Its called zero respect for authority. Back in the day when I was in public school (1974ish - 1987), it was still legal for school officials to administer corporal punishment – within reason of course. Today? You even threaten to touch a child and their parents sue. Gotta love the lawyers! Kids have nothing to fear today. There is no such thing as a true "authority figure"; the concept is totally alien to them. Cops are all bad - their shitty rap songs constantly remind them of this. Kids in my day didn't walk thru metal detectors en route to class, because no one was callous enough to take a gun to school with the premeditated intent of mowing down classmates. Make it legal once again for parents and principals to "tan ass" when it’s called for, and MAYBE you might see this shit stop. -LB |

Bluntly, this exactly the sort of knee-jerk reaction that is totally wrong. Youth crime is down and has been consistantly down for almost 50 years. This is exactly the sort of thing that will trigger yet another bullshit crackdown on "lawless youth." In case you missed it, the response to that has been killing kids (see the current Florida case with the kid beaten to death on video in a youth boot camp). The problem with these morons is the same as it would have been 50 years ago. They're morons. |
