There's lots of ways to describe this video, Strange, Scary, "WTF?!!" This video is about some 9-year-old arguing with his mother about Chocolate Milk while playing Xbox Live, and forgetting to turn his Headset off.
John Smedley of Sony used this clip in his lifeless keynote at the Austin Games Conference this past fall. He played it to illustrate...something...no one was quite sure what. It went on and on, in a huge crowd of designers who were there to be inspired. There was some nervous laughter, and then the room just got more quiet and uncomfortable as the creepy situation played out with grainy video and emotional violence. It is clear that there is violence and foulness in this household that has damaged at least this one boy, and it comes through louder than any point you can make out online play.
Smed followed it up with a weak joke, "Gee, I didn't know they were in my house" that didn't do anything to dissipate the pall.
We kept thinking how kind it was for him to provide a huge opportunity for game hating legislators and media. I had hoped to never hear of it again.
