Another important SCOTUS case handed down today. I'm obviously disappointed with the result of this case, but that doesn't mean that the reasoning is poor. I'm not sure if I'll bother reading it to find out, but I'd be interested in analysis if anyone on this board has looked at this more carefully.
It's just a matter of time. There are sound and good reasons for declaring that phone company's services are telecom and cable are information services. While cable is a monopoly in most places, there are more cable companies in the US than telecom providers, so technically, there is more competition. In the end though, the market needs to be cracked open and all of these guys will be seen as equals. Ironically, this is one of the reasons why they move very very slowly when it comes to offering advanced services like VoIP, VoD, and HSI. The more they all offer the same services, the easier it will be to say that they are equal and should be regulated the same way. |
