How can a man or woman who makes an eight-figure wage and lives in insane luxury really be a star in today's world, if by a "star" we mean someone bright and powerful and attractive as a role model?

Real stars are not riding around in the backs of limousines or in Porsches or getting trained in yoga or Pilates and eating only raw fruit while they have Vietnamese girls do their nails. They can be interesting, nice people, but they are not heroes to me any longer

Ben Stein, author, actor, economist, speech writer, and pundt, column about how out of wack some of our perceptions are.

Give me a break. I mean, yeah, that's the gist of the first half of the article. The rest is about how everything is in God's plan and we should all hand over our lives to Him. That's all well and good, but it doesn't have a place in politics. I absolutely disrespect the man for thinking otherwise, whether for ill or good. Ben Stein of all people should know that the altruism he respects needn't have a single tie to God as he witnessed the disconnet between the two personally when he worked for Pres. Nixon. The unquestionably unethical president was solidly grounded in religion as he attended a Quaker college for his undergrad (thank you Wikipedia).

Keep religion out of politics; the objectivity will do us all some good.
