Why? Cato on Term Limits... The nation's Founders strongly believed in rotation in office. They left term limits out of the Constitution because they did not foresee that politics would become a career for so many people. Short term limits would remedy that mistake. Nothing is more important today than reversing the pernicious rise of a professional political class.
We should get rid of term limits! They are NO GOOD. You see, the founding fathers did not know what they were talking about! They were WRONG. Now, if you need a further argument, I will illustrate. They lived over two hundred years ago. When they wrote up those Declaration and Constitution documents, there was no such thing as progress. They foolishly believed that they could rotate the government and everything would be okay. Well, it's not. The cracks in the whole theory begin to show when you realize that these men have been dead for a very long time. Their ways should die with them. For one, they did not have the internet. That's very important to realize. For another, they did not have forty six states and four commonwealths. They only had thirteen colonies. That is very important to consider. Now, if we still had thirteen colonies and less ignorant immigrants who come here and vote for the wrong people then leave the country to go back to their own with pilfered U.S. cash, then we may need term limits. But NO! Instead we have AIDS and terrorists and theiving, greedy immigrants and Hollywood. And we also have the most important issues affecting Americans today, those being marriage rights for homosexuals, abortion rights, Leonard Peltier, the Spotted Owl, violent video games, violent movies, children's junk food habits, internet downloading, government funding of controversial art, Janet Jackson's nipples, Michael Jackson, Scott Peterson, Terri Schiavo, animal testing, the paparazzi harassing our beloved selfless celebrity heroes, and concert T-shirt sales. How can we ignore these issues that will make the country come crashing down! You see, back in the 80's we had other threats. You see, Satanic heavy metal was threatening to destroy the moral fiber of our nation by transforming the youth into devil-worshipping, suicidal, homocidal minions of the dark forces. Then, we introduced a parental warning sticker to label these metals with and it thwarted their very attempts to undermine our nation. That was progress. This term limit stuff you speak of is not. It is founding fatherisms blown out of proportion. Remember, if we were to do things the way the founding fathers did them, then we would have to strip african americans of their freedom, take away women's suffrage and adhere to the monroe doctrine. You are being wrong, tom. |
