I have another take on it, which is that the whole damn thing was a travesty from Day One. And remember, Day One happened back in the freaking early '90s. I haven't followed the details, because, quite frankly, it strikes me as just so much callous entertainment. Hardly anyone actually cares about the kids. It's about the spectacle. About the dirty secrets behind a celebrity facade. About the fall from grace of a venerated hero (as much as I wish that terminology didn't apply, i firmly believe it does, here, in this time and place). I've said before that it was retarded for parents to ship their kids off to MJ's fantasy-land, and that's particularly true after the first allegations started flying. I don't care who he is. Supervise your kids. That's not a cop out, just a statement. I think a lot of the family rage needs to be redirected backwards. If Michael did the things he's accused of, then he should go to jail. Absolutely. The problem is that *everyone* *seems* to care so much. A million kids get abused all the time. We never hear about them because they mostly just grow up to be whatever they end up being... normal and well adjusted or not. Michaels a target because he's a famous and well-known weirdo, which is pretty sad. Again, not an excuse, just a bit of perspective, I think. It's irrelevant. As I said on my blog, the whole thing will end up to be little more than a list of monetary transactions that made a lot of people a lot of money (mostly media companies), and served very little real purpose. "sound and fury, signifying nothing" as i've heard it said before. |
