This is not what it's being assumed to be. Apple is not going to replace the PPC's in their lineup with Intel CPUs. This is, if anything, a low cost proc that will be used for a low cost media machine - something sub Mac Mini most likely. Today, there's really no cost advantage for Apple to use Intel's procs (particularly the x86 line) as their core CPUs for their lineup. The IBM PPC's work well. The only exception is the G5, which hasn't been able to be put into a low power low heat application yet. But I don't think that's what Apple is crying about (much). I think that this will be for a machine that is more consumer product oriented than PC oriented or laptop oriented. of course, I have been known to be wrong. From time to time. |
