A Race to the Top, Or, An Obit For Old Europe
by Rattle at 8:03 pm EDT, Jun 4, 2005

French voters are trying to preserve a 35-hour work week in a world where Indian engineers are ready to work a 35-hour day. Good luck.

Indians are not racing us to the bottom. They are racing us to the top.

Tom also notes that Paul Krugman is on vacation. I am unsure if he means from the New York Times or economic reality.

Get ready, Tom Friedman columns will shortly be the new warez.

Heh; this note is added by the editor, not by Tom. It makes more sense in the print edition, because it has more context. Paul's and Tom's columns share the same page in the paper, so if you go there expecting to find Paul's, you'll see the note at the bottom of the page explaining why it isn't there.

The translation to the Web is less than perfect.

Well, in this case, the transition from print to web has resulted in amusement. I can deal with that.

Do you suppose Tom Friedman columns will soon show up on BitTorrent networks?
