Well, the interview was putting him on the spot, but at the same time he didn't really defend himself well. I think wired should do more expanded coverage of this.

"There are internal numbers that are much more sophisticated than what's available to the public."

What does that mean? You would understand everything if you could see inside this black box that I won't show you? Sounds like McArthy's list of communists. He doesn't really address why there is a perception that funding isn't available.
